Richard L. Andres, age 88, of Millville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, September 30, 2024, at Cooper Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Millville and a graduate of Millville High School class of 1953. Richard was a gifted athlete. He was selected to the 1952 All South Jersey Football team. He was a captain of the 1952 team that initiated the 31 game winning streak and was inducted into the Millville Sports Hall of Fame.  He was one of the founding fathers and coached in the Holly City Midget Football League from the 1950's to 1970's. He was the recipient of the 1996 Pride of Millville Award and the 2000 Elks Old Time Athlete Award. Richard was also a well-respected custom home builder in Cumberland and Cape May County for over 60 years. He loved to travel, watch the Thunderbolts play, spend time at his Ocean City summer home, and fish off the Ocean City coast aboard his boat the Sawdust.
He was predeceased by his son, Scott, and brother, Milton.
Richard is survived by his wife, Maryanne; sons, Richard D. Andres, Sr. and his wife Sandra; Craig L. Andres and his wife, Marlene; Mark D. Andres; stepson, Michael J. Samano; daughter-in-law, Shannon; grandchildren, Richard Jr., Jonathan, Kaitlin, Cameron, Spencer, Bennett, Allison, Kelsey, and Bryn Andres; and great grandchildren, Emily, Danielle and Taylor Andres, and Joseph and Kasandra Bozzomo.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Richard's viewing on Friday evening from 7 to 9 PM and Saturday morning from 10 AM to 11 AM at Barr Funeral Home, 2104 E. Main Street, Millville, NJ 08332. The funeral service will be Saturday at 11 AM. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard's memory to Millville Thunderbolt Club, 706 N. 8th St., Millville, NJ 08332.
