Norman G.
Mathis, Jr.
Mar 11, 1941 — Dec 23, 2025
Palm Coast
Norman "Skip" G. Mathis, Jr., 84, of Palm Coast, Florida passed away on December 23, 2025. Norman was born on March 11, 1941 to Anna (Gaskill) and Norman G. Mathis in Atlantic City, NJ. He was raised in New Gretna and graduated from Southern Regional High School, Manahawkin, in 1959. Norman entered into the United States Air Force in 1960, later transferring full time into the US Air National Guard.
In 1964, Skip was introduced to Carolann Hildreth of Feasterville, PA by mutual friends during a weekend ski trip in the Pocono Mountains. Norman's charm and dancing prowess won Carolann over and they married a year later. During their nearly 46 year marriage, they raised three children while enjoying a very active and social lifestyle. He delighted in sharing his life experiences, skills and talents with his children and grandchildren, as well as creating lasting memories with those whom he was closest to.
Motorcycles were a lifelong favorite hobby. He raced enduros with the South Jersey Scramblers for years winning numerous trophies. Norman quite possibly accrued more miles on his bikes from trips to and from work, running errands, local poker runs, weekend trips and (2) month long cross country rides than any of his other vehicles combined.
Norman's other beloved hobbies included duck hunting with his brother, Ronald, fishing/clamming/boating with family and friends, dancing and cruising with his "bride", golfing, reading and attending activities with the Millville Elks, Moose, American Legion and Masonic Lodge.
Although Norman, a MSGT, retired in 1995 as an Operations Specialist with the 177th Fighter Wing (Jersey Devils) in Egg Harbor Township, he didn't stay retired long. He earned his CDL soon after and drove large trucks for Cooper Asphalt then S. Coraluzzo until 2020 when a stroke required him to relocate with family in Palm Coast, Florida.
Norman was predeceased by his mother, Anna, father, Norman Sr. and wife, Carolann. He is survived by one brother, Ronald Mathis (Patricia) of Northfield, NJ; 3 children, Brian Mathis (Colleen) of Ocala, FL, Stephanie Stigler (Robert) of Palm Coast, FL, and Stacey Hricak (Francois) of Palm Coast, FL; 7 grandchildren: Nicholas, Taylor, Megan, Lauren Haley, Erin, Payton and Corson; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Barr Funeral Home, 2104 E. Main Street, Millville, NJ 08332 on Saturday, January 10, 2025. Visitation will be from 11 AM-12:30 PM with the funeral service at 12:30 PM. Burial to follow at Port Elizabeth United Methodist Church Cemetery.
