Obituary

Nathan Tyler Butcher, 33, of Maurice River Township, NJ passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 2, 2026.

Born in Bridgeton, NJ on April 16, 1992, Nathan was the son of Robert John and Tracy (Pangburn) Butcher, Sr. He was a lifelong resident of Maurice River Township and a graduate of Millville High School, Class of 2010.

Nathan was a third-generation commercial crabber. His love for crabbing began at an early age—starting as a toddler and officially joining his father, brother, and uncles on the water at just four years old as a buoy spotter. What began as childhood time on the bay grew into his lifelong passion and the foundation for what he proudly considered his own crab empire.

During his youth, Nathan was active in sports. He played with MRT Little League Baseball, Vineland Inline Hockey, the Vineland Traveling Ice Hockey League, and later was a member of the Millville High School golf team.

In his free time, Nathan was an avid bow hunter and a member of both the South Millville Gunning Club and the Millville Elks. He enjoyed following baseball and was well known for his love of statistics. Nathan was a devoted fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and the Green Bay Packers.

Nathan is survived by his loving parents, Robert John and Tracy (Pangburn) Butcher, Sr.; his brother, Robert John Butcher, Jr., and his wife, Lena; his nephew, Robert John Butcher III; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his beloved dog, Red.

A private family service will be held, with a celebration of Nathan's life to take place at a later date. Arrangements by Barr Funeral Home.
