Obituary

Mary Jo Pinder (78), born on November 27, 1946, in Princeton, NJ went to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully with her family by her side in the early hours on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, in Vineland, NJ after sudden illness.

"MJ" to those who knew her is survived by her daughter and best friend, Kimberly Eisenberg (Son-in-Law Eric of Millville); Granddaughter, Katelyn Jenkins (Grandson-in-Law, Josh of Vineland); Grandson, Joshua Eisenberg of Boston, MA; Great grandsons, Nicholas and Noble Jenkins.

She is also survived by two sisters, one brother, and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Jo was predeceased by her loving Husband of more than 25 years, Francis "Butch" Pinder; her Parents, William "Pete" and Evelyn Schenck; her Grandparents, Ernest and Verna McChesney; her Parents-in-Law, Francis "Tates" and Marion Pinder, as well as numerous relatives and close friends.

Mary Jo grew up in Mercer County, Hightstown, NJ, and also lived several years in East Windsor, NJ before relocating to Millville, NJ in 1983. After marrying her husband, "Butch", they later resided in Wildwood Crest, NJ in 1987.

Mary Jo worked several years for the Board of Education in West Windsor Twp, NJ (Mercer County) before permanently working for the New Jersey Department of Corrections at Southern State Correctional Facility as a secretary in the Training Dept. before promoting to Technical Assistant in the Classification Dept.

During her time in South Jersey, MJ volunteered at the former Millville New Jersey Hospital.

While residing in Wildwood Crest, she and her husband attended Assumption Catholic Church. At the time of their retirement, Mary Jo and Butch relocated to Port Charlotte, FL where they worshipped, served and volunteered together at St. Charles Boromeo Catholic Church.

Mary Jo had a deep passion for caring for others, which allowed her to lead and volunteer as coordinator of the care ministry at their parish. She also volunteered at Faucett Memorial Hospital where she received recognition as Volunteer of the Year during her time of service.

MJ enjoyed a variety of crafting in her spare time including quilting, cross-stitch, crochet and other hand crafts. She was an avid sewer, often making some of her own clothing, aprons, pillowcases and more.

Mary Jo was also an avid reader and lover of word searches, jigsaw puzzles, and card/boardgames. With her competitive nature, outstanding sense of humor and great wit, Rummy and Canasta were her favorite to play and often challenge her daughter and granddaughter to try to beat her (with them having little success) as a regular tradition of family time spent together. In recent days, she greatly enjoyed continuing this tradition of playing games with her great grandsons.

MJ loved golfing and dancing with her husband and had a wonderful appreciation of music. In her younger years, she played the flute in her high school marching band. As an adult, she loved singing in church choirs and also was a member of the women's singing group, Sweet Adeline's. She also enjoyed playing the piano and listening to classical music and hymns.

Her caring nature extended to caring for plants and flowers for which she had a true green thumb (Violets were her favorite flower). As well, she loved animals and during retirement years greatly enjoyed the company of her beloved Cairn Terrier, Lady.

The family wishes to thank those at Inspira Vineland Medical Center and Millville Fire Dept. Rescue Squad for their incredible attention and care of Mary Jo, Barr Funeral Home of Millville, NJ for their kindness and sensitivity towards Mary Jo's wishes, and all those who have prayed for her and supported her family during this time.

It was Mary Jo's wish that there not be a formal funeral. An intimate celebration of life may be held at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, MJ would have appreciated if those that might wish to make a memorial donation to Inspira Vineland Medical Center or Millville Fire Dept. Rescue Squad, noting in memory of Mary Jo Pinder.

Mary Jo Pinder is so loved and cherished, and will be greatly missed.
