Obituary

Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Nuskey
October 26, 1933 – June 23, 2026

Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Nuskey, 92, of Millville, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, following a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born on October 26, 1933, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, Betty was the daughter of Michael and Mary Lanko (Lazarcheck).  She grew up alongside her two brothers, Robert "Bob" Lanko and Donald "Don" Lanko and was known to family and friends simply as "Betty."

A devoted mother and dedicated caregiver, Betty centered her life around her family and took great pride in raising her three sons. She is survived by her loving sons, Michael "Mickey" Nuskey and Robert "Bobby" Nuskey; her daughter-in-law, Patty Nuskey (DelRossi); one granddaughter and many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Karl Nuskey, who passed away in 2021.

Betty graduated from Georges High School in Fairchance, Pennsylvania, in 1951.  Seeking greater opportunities, she moved with family members to Millville, New Jersey, where she established her home and remained a proud resident for the rest of her life.  She was an avid pinochle card player enjoying social gatherings with family members at the Lanko residence for fun and friendly competition.

For 44 years, Betty worked for Acme Markets, advancing as a supervisor as she demonstrated her skills working with numbers, earning the respect and admiration of coworkers and customers alike through her strong work ethic, kindness, and dedication. Upon her retirement in 1995, family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues gathered to celebrate her many years of loyal service and the lasting impact she made on those around her.

A woman of deep faith and commitment to her community, Betty was a longtime member of Saint Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Millville. She generously volunteered countless hours, along with fellow parishioners, preparing homemade pierogies and traditional Ukrainian foods for church dinners, picnics, celebrations and community events. She was also an active member of the Saint Nicholas Ukrainian Club, helping organize fundraising efforts to support the church and serving faithfully as the club's treasurer for 35 years before stepping down in 2014. In addition, she was a proud member of the Ukrainian National Home.

Betty embraced life by enjoying her time with family and friends at the beach, especially in Stone Harbor, New Jersey, and Ocean City, Maryland. She loved traveling throughout the United States and treasured memorable trips to France with friends. A lifelong baseball fan, Betty faithfully followed the Pittsburgh Pirates during her years in Pennsylvania, later becoming an enthusiastic supporter of the Philadelphia Phillies after making New Jersey her home.

She also enjoyed visits to Atlantic City and Las Vegas, where she looked forward to the entertainment, shows, buffets, and the company of friends and loved ones.

Above all, Betty will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, her generosity, her strong faith, and her willingness to help others. Her warm smile, tireless work ethic, and caring spirit touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
