Obituary

Marisol Ivette Gonzalez-McCarthy

With profound sadness and deep love, we share the passing of Marisol Ivette Gonzalez-McCarthy, 48, on April 6, 2026, at Cooper Hospital in Camden, following a long illness.

Marisol was born on March 1 1978 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Rosa Meeker (Sanchez) and Wilfredo Gonzalez. From an early age, she brought light and energy into the lives of those around her—a light that never dimmed and will continue to shine through all who knew her.

For 25 years, Marisol dedicated herself to teaching Spanish at Millville High School and CCTEC. She was more than a teacher, she was a mentor, a motivator, and a bright presence in the lives of her students. Her classroom was filled not only with learning, but with laughter, warmth, and encouragement. She had a rare gift for making people feel seen, valued, and inspired.

Marisol embraced life fully and joyfully. She loved traveling with family and friends, kayaking, camping, and skiing, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Her creativity and generosity shone through in the beautiful balloon bouquets she crafted for countless celebrations, adding her special touch to so many meaningful moments.

Above all else, Marisol's greatest joy was her family. She shared an unbreakable bond with her beloved husband of 31 years, Shaun, and found her deepest happiness in being a mother to Shauny Jr. and Lola. She adored her dogs, Piper—her faithful companion—and Oakley, her littlest love, who brought her so much comfort and happiness.

Marisol is survived by her devoted husband, Shaun; her loving children, Shauny Jr. and Lola; her mother, Rosa Meeker; her grandmother, Rosa; her sister, Neena Meeker; her nephew; Austin Valentin; her brother, Ryan Meeker; and her brother, Pichi (Wilfredo Gonzalez). She is also lovingly remembered by her husband's parents, Richard and Claudia McCarthy; her siblings-in-law, Chelsea Etter (Tony) and James McCarthy (Katie); and a wide circle of extended family and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wilfredo Gonzalez; her stepfather, Steven Meeker; her brother, Angel Gonzalez; her brother-in-law, Christian McCarthy; her grandmother, Petra Lopez; and her cherished soul dog, Piper.

A viewing will be held at Barr Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and again on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place immediately following at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Elk's Lodge.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shaun McCarthy Jr. and Lola McCarthy to support their college educations.

Marisol's love, laughter, and vibrant spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and joy that will never be forgotten.
