Obituary

John Samchuk, age 89 of Millville, passed away Tuesday morning at his home surrounded by his family.

John spent most of his life in Millville, except the first few years of his marriage when he lived in Manchester, New Hampshire while he was serving in the Air Force. He served proudly during the Korean War and attained the rank of Sergeant.  After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, John took a position at Airwork Inc. where he rose to the position of Manager at Airwork and its parent company Purex. He served as President of the Airwork Credit Union, now known as Thunderbolt Credit Union.

John treasured his family and loved the time he spent with each of them. Among his favorite past times were family Phillies games at Veterans Stadium, summering in Ocean City, and vacationing in Shenandoah National Park with his family. He was the perfect grandfather and to his grandchildren, he was the perfect "jungle gym". In the last few weeks of his illness his grandchildren and great grandchildren still brought a sparkle to his eyes. He was a patron of the arts, especially ballet. He looked forward to and enjoyed the many trips he made with granddaughters to the Rock School of Dance. He was a member of the Fourth United Methodist Church.

He was predeceased by his wife Ila and grand-daughter Noelle Smith.

John is survived by : daughters, Sandy Smith and husband Michael, and Patricia Parsons; grandchildren, Bryce and his wife Katie, Blythe, Jonah, Summer and her husband Donald Erickson, Promise and Noah Smith, Jeffrey Frank and Kelly Zanni and her husband Bob; and great grandchildren, Nola and Neva Smith, Lexi and Alli Frank and their mother Gina, and Bobby Zanni.
