Obituary

Today we mourn the passing of Joann Hisako Zimmerman (born McBride), a native of Millville, NJ, born the 24th of January, 1953. She passed peacefully on the 24th of March, 2022 after a valiant battle with covid.

Her loving husband, Kim Zimmerman, and three children, Nathan McBride, Jenny Wye, and Adam Zimmerman, will be hosting a memorial on the 10th of April, 2022 at Barr Funeral Home, 2104 East Main Street, Millville. Please join us to pay your respects from 3:00pm; the service will begin at 4:00pm.

Joann was a warm and friendly wife, mother, and friend, who lived a life of love through service. From my youngest years, I remember her hauling car loads of children and teens to youth group and endless band practices and drama rehearsals.

Known for her hospitality, she always kept a coffee or hummingbird cake for visitors. Every Easter she baked and decorated cakes in the shapes of eggs with delicious homemade icing and delivered them as gifts to her family and friends.

An extremely dedicated grandmother, she ensured she celebrated and supported her grandchildren at birthdays, performances, and spontaneous family barbecues. It was never a bad time for her grandbabies to visit.

Though raised in town, Joann connected deeply to nature. She always said our porch was the best room of the house. You could find her there at almost any time of the day, listening to the birds and watching God's creation. She also enjoyed camping, hiking, and fishing with her husband, Kim.

Joann, a woman of deep faith, showed everyone the love of God and wanted everyone to feel accepted. My brothers and I are extremely blessed to call her mom, and so many of our friends and family members have special bonds with their Aunt Joann, Mama Z, or Jojo.

She is desperately missed and will never be forgotten.
