Joan M. Blose, age 83 of Millville, passed away Tuesday morning at Victoria Manor in North Cape May after a lengthy illness.
Born in Philadelphia, Joan had graduated high school and completed training as a librarian. She had worked at the Philadelphia Public Library and more recently at Cumberland County College as a librarian and a secretary, retiring after 25 years of service. In her retirement, she started a support group for people with depression and mental illness. Whether it was severe depression or an abusive relationship, Joan was a source of strength and inspiration, counseling many so that they would feel they were not alone in their troubles. She often sent cards and notes of encouragement and was a great listener.
Joan liked to read Mary Higgins novels. She had been an active member and Sunday school teacher at the first United Methodist Church of Millville. She was past president of the PTA.
Joan is survived by her husband of 62 years, Charles F. Blose, Jr.; 3 children, Steven C. Blose and his wife Janet; Karen Blose O'Brien and Daniel F. Blose; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joan's funeral service 11 am Saturday at the Barr Funeral Home, 2104 East main Street in Millville. Visitation will be from 9:30 am to 11 am in the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park.
