Obituary

Jerry Wayne Stiles, 74, of Millville, NJ passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday,
August 21, 2024, from complications brought on by metastatic melanoma of the brain. Jerry was
predeceased by his parents, George and Evelyn (Reiser) Stiles, his nephew, James Michael
Stiles; and his great, great nephew, Harrison Marshall Bennett.

He will be deeply missed by the love of his life, his wife of 51years, Sherry Whildin Stiles; his
son, Jarad "Mitch" Stiles; his daughter Elizabeth "Elly" Stiles Crose; his son-in-law, Kyle Crose;
and the apples of his eye, grandchildren Hudson and Evelyn Crose; his grandpup Katerina; his
brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Nancy Stiles; sister, Elizabeth Saxton; and his brother-in-law
and sister-in-law, Bob and Kathy Millard. Jerry was also blessed with 9 nieces and nephews, 14
great nieces and nephews, and 5 great-greats!

Jerry felt honored that, as Santa's Official Helper, Jerry was the first Santa for his grandchildren
and most of his great and great-great nieces and nephews, as well as countless other children
throughout Cumberland County. He took this responsibility seriously and was humbled by the
amount of joy this honor brought him.

Jerry was a graduate of Millville Senior High School, class of 1968. After being drafted right out of high school, Jerry enlisted in the US Air Force where he earned the rank of Sergeant. Jerry served as an Inventory Management Specialist. After his discharge he earned an associates
degree from Cumberland County College and went on to attend Glassboro State College.

Jerry later accepted a job with the US Postal Service in Vineland, NJ. He developed many life-long friendships while there. He also served in many executive positions within the local National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Branch 534. To him, his proudest and most meaningful work while there was to organize and run the first few years of the NALC Vineland Community Food Drive. He completed his career at the Millville office.

Jerry's greatest joy was being with his immediate and extended family. They were his driving force. Jerry always believed they hung "the moon." He wanted nothing more than to bring laughter to those he loved.

Jerry made friends wherever he went, often exchanging life stories before parting. For many years, Jerry collected, bought, sold, and traded sports cards and memorabilia, of course, collecting many friends along the way. He enjoyed the hunt more than anything and loved discovering offbeat items.

In his younger years, he enjoyed many sports, from Little League Baseball with Flanagan Brothers to playing softball and flag football for John's Bar teams. He was a die-hard Philadelphia Sports team fan and is sure this is the year the city will sweep
the championships.

His longest lasting, favorite pastime was playing golf. He began playing when he was 12 and played every year for the next 61 years. He loved the time he spent on the links, but even more than that, he cherished the time spent with his golf buddies.

Jerry asked us to tell you that he is wearing shorts, and he hopes that you will, too.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jerry's viewing on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, from 5:30 PM to 7 PM at Barr Funeral Home, 2104 E. Main Street, Millville, NJ 08332. The funeral service will follow at 7 PM.

He asked that, in lieu of flowers, visitors bring a non-perishable food item or make a donation to the First United Methodist Church of Millville, NJ Food Pantry (checks to First UMC with "Food Pantry" on memo line).
