Janet R.
Paranych
Jun 9, 1936 — Nov 26, 2025
Millville
Janet R. Paranych (Peterson) passed away in the pre-dawn hours of November 26, 2025, in her home after a lengthy struggle with vascular dementia.
Janet was born on June 9, 1936, and was the eldest of the six children of Aaron Peterson, Jr and his wife, Esther. At home, she was often the caregiver of her younger siblings. After graduating from Millville High School, Janet worked a few secretarial jobs before becoming employed by Prudential Insurance.
Janet met the love of her life and husband, Edward in 1954 on a blind double date (when the two were "fixed up" with other people!). Eventually, Janet would pass up working outside of the home for her role as a mother and homemaker. She was always supportive of her two daughters, and volunteered in the school library and PTA. Janet would also assemble slide shows of family vacations to historical sites and present them classrooms at her daughters' elementary school. Many students remember her fondly as a kind and knowledgeable woman.
Janet was an avid reader of Historical Nonfiction and travel to "old houses". If there was a President's home within a drivable radius of a family vacation spot, the Paranychs were there! Janet enjoyed touring local historical homes as well, especially during the Winter Holidays. She also had an artist's eye and took several oil painting classes and enjoyed going to museums. She traveled extensively throughout the United States with her husband and later, with her family. There were also annual camping trips to the shore with her siblings and their children and big family gatherings for Christmas Eve and Summer Holidays. Later, she would enjoy joining The Rainbow Squares with Ed and making lifelong friendships at the square dances as well as on numerous bus tours and excursions. Janet fulfilled a life-long desire to travel to Ireland, making the trip with her daughters in 1998. She and her husband also took a memorable trip to several European cities.
Janet was preceded in death by her beloved husband Edward, after 62 years of marriage; her parents; sisters Sarah Ericsson, Linda Peterson and most recently, her dear brother, Aaron Peterson, III. She is survived by many nieces and nephews who adored her, as well as her closest friend and sister, Patricia Hoffman and dear sister Nancy Shelin; her treasured daughters Nancy Buczynski and Jane Lewis and her dearest grandchildren Rachel Buczynski and Abigail, Adam and Peter Lewis all of whom will miss her beyond measure.
Janet's children owe an enormous debt of gratitude to their mother's live-in caregiver, Aletha Bowman, Griswold Home Care and Bayada Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Dementia Society of America, The Alzheimer's Association or your Local Hospice Organization.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Janet's viewing and funeral service on Saturday November 29, 2025, at Barr Funeral Home, 2104 E. Main Street, Millville. The viewing will be from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM followed by a funeral service. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park.
