Jim passed away early in the morning on July 22, 2023, at the age of 70. He went peacefully in his sleep at his home in New Jersey with his son, Jonathan, sitting next to him. His last words were that he was happy.

Jim is survived by his two sons; a granddaughter; his close friend Vicki; his sponsor, Rusty McKay; all of the telethugs, current and former; four siblings; and God knows how many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.

Although Jim was effectively a professional writer for decades, he did not write his own obituary, but I know he would want it to be humorous. The following is in that spirit, and partially to spite his optimistic procrastination. After 30+ years of being told by doctors that they didn't expect him to live this long, Jim's immediate cause of death was a bowel obstruction. That is to say, he died the way he lived: full of shit.

Jim asked to be cremated and have his ashes scattered in the ocean, which will definitely be done completely legally and with all the proper paperwork.
