Herbert "Fred" Myers, age 72 of Millville, passed away Tuesday morning in NJ Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland, NJ. Fred was born in Weymouth, MA and was the son of Herbert and Katherine Myers. He served on an aircraft carrier as a fire fighter in the Navy from 1961 – 1965. After his service in the Navy, Fred was a clammer for 13 years until he began to work for South Jersey Gas Company until his retirement. He served 20 years on the Middle Township Recreational Committee, was a lifetime member of the Rio Grande Fire Dept., where he served as Commissioner for 12 years, and many other organizations.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Harriett Distefano, Ruth Sockriter, Eleanor Durkee, and Jeanette Jones.
Fred is survived by: his wife, Mary F. Myers; son, David Myers and wife Beth; daughter, Dawn Serbeck and husband, Jason; daughter, Debra Myers; brother, Richard Myers; sisters, Alma Rose and Doris Sockriter and husband Richard; grandchildren, Courtney Myers; Gavin Myers; Andrew Myers; Stephen Myers and wife Ashley; Jesse Carawan; Thomas Holland; Arianna Holland; and great-grandchild, Jesse Carawan.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Fred's funeral service at 11:30 AM Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at the Barr Funeral Home, 2104 East Main Street in Millville. There will be a viewing from 10 AM to 11:30 AM in the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
