Herbert Lee Elliott, Sr. of Millville, passed away at home on May 17, 2018, after an extended illness. He was 78 years old. He was born on October 1, 1939, to the late Reese E. Elliott and Mabel (Carter) Elliott.

Herb was a member of the Bricklayers Union Local 19, being initiated in 1958. During his long career as a bricklayer, Herb maintained a level of craftsmanship and professionalism that was respected by all those he worked alongside on the job site. Over his long career, he had a hand in the construction of innumerable buildings and projects, making it difficult to drive very far in South Jersey without passing a "job" that he worked on. The area is littered with examples of his master craftsmanship.

While Herb took pride in his craft and the works he produced, his greatest source of satisfaction and accomplishment lay in those he helped to learn about Jehovah God and the hope of a New Order. He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1970. He served tirelessly as an Elder in the Millville Congregation as well as providing the opportunity to learn about Jehovah in the local prison system to any inmate that showed an interest. He remained a faithful servant of Jehovah until his death and even while on his sickbed, Herbert never missed an opportunity to share his important message of hope for the future through Jehovah's Kingdom. He maintained his integrity and provided an outstanding witness that will remain in Jehovah's memory until he receives the promise of resurrection in the New System.

Herbert journeyed through life with his beloved wife, Patricia (Baird) Elliott. They married on October 21, 1960, and spent the next 57 years side by side, tackling one adventure after another. His devotion and love for Patricia were matched only by hers for him. Along with Patricia, he leaves behind: Herbert L. Elliott, Jr. and his wife Victoria, Virginia A. (Elliott) McCeig, Rodney A. Elliott and his wife Marianne, and R. Julia Elliott-Gibbs and her husband Chris Gibbs. He is also survived by his 7 grandchildren, Joshua Elliott (Tara), Kaitlyn McCeig, Keily (John) Cote, Miranda McCeig, Rebekah Elliott, Brianna Gibbs, and Isabella Gibbs, as well as 5 great-grandchildren. In addition, Herbert is survived by 1 brother, Gary Elliott, as well as many nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his siblings Irwin Elliott, Reese Edward Elliott, Betty Blizzard, Robert Elliott, and Phyllis Springsteadah. Beyond this list is an innumerable number of people whose lives he has touched.

Funeral services for Herbert will be held on May 26, 2018, at Barr Funeral Home located at 2104 E. Main St., Millville, NJ. The talk will be given by Jerome Selleck and will begin at 2 pm, with visitation starting one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, please consider the needs of the family.
