Obituary

Harold Scott Weiss of Millville passed away on March 11, 2021.

"Hal" was born in Belleplain, NJ on January 2, 1947 to George and Myrtle Weiss. He grew up in Millville, NJ and was a graduate of MHS Class of 1965. Hal spent a brief time in the Navy before marrying and raising a family in South Jersey. His love of photography, skiing, drawing, hiking in Vermont, pool parties and pirate stories will be remembered fondly by his family.

Hal spent most of his life in the business of fitness. Starting as a young bodybuilder, he competed in many competitions winning several titles. Hal opened one of the first weight-lifting gyms in the late 1970s and later became the owner/manager of 'Tri-City Health and Racquet Club' in Vineland and 'For Women Only' in Millville. These businesses were on the cutting edge of fitness at that time bringing the first racquetball courts and aerobics classes to South Jersey. Tri-City was the place to be for fitness, racquet sports and social events. Creating a community around fitness was a new concept and Hal had a natural talent for it - he knew everyone's name and he used humor and playful teasing to encourage and inspire his fitness community.

Hal later lived and worked in Baltimore, MD pioneering his own concept of "Fast Track" workouts in several fitness facilities in that area. Hal was happiest when he was working the fitness floor joking around with his clients.

Hal is preceded in death by his parents and three of his siblings, George, James and Robert. He is survived by his sister Ruth Sauvain, his former wife Cathy Zimmerman (Jim) Park (Myrtle Beach, SC), their daughters Heather (Eric) Fahrenkrog (Libertyville, IL) and Heidi Weiss (Sebastian Gaebel) (Berlin, GR), and their four grandchildren, Lucas, Spencer, Eva and Isabelle. Hal is also survived by his former partner, Clara Longo (Baltimore, MD), and her family including Cruz and Nico Helm who were grandchildren to him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on 10 AM on Saturday, May 22nd at Barr Funeral Home in Millville, NJ.
