Curtis Walter
Riggins, Jr.
d. Jul 24, 2023
Rosenhayn
Curtis Walter Riggins, Jr., 42 years old, son of Clarissa Wave Cossaboon-Riggins and the late Charles Lawrence Slaney, III, was born on May 9, 1981, in Bridgeton, NJ. He received his name from his adoptive father Curtis Walter Riggins, Sr. who most knew as Big Curt. Curtis, Jr. was known by many names to the family, including but certainly not limited to, Lil Curt, Curtie, Curt-Curt, and Uncle Fart-Fart. But for most he was known most simply as Curt. At holidays he was know as Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny for his twin sisters Ashley and Clarissa.
Curt departed from us on July 24, 2023 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania due to Liver Disease. He grew up all over Cumberland County, in towns such as Heislerville, Port Norris, and Millville. In his adult years Curt lived in Vineland and Rosenhayn. He attended school at Maurice River Township, Millville High School, and Vineland High School. Curt was known to be extremely smart and gifted when it came to using his hands, from car problems to home repair. Everyone in the family knew if they needed help fixing anything they could call him, and he would always be able and willing to help. He loved going fishing, being out in nature and stocking for New Jersey Fish and Wildlife.
Curt started working at the age of 14 hauling bundles of shingles on to roofs and learning how to become a literal Jack of all Trades. He learned how to do everything from roofing to dry wall, trim to flooring, Curt could do it all. This led to him and his best friend Kris Stratton starting their own business, the aptly named, Wall 2 Wall Home Improvements. He and Kris were second to none, always doing the job right the first time.
Curt's biggest joy in life was in raising his three boys. When they were younger, he took them out on dune buggies and four wheelers, on camping trips to Tall Pines, road trips to Tennessee and New York City, and doing the New Jersey Lighthouse Challenge. Curt supported them in all they wanted to do. For Aiden that meant getting tools to fix small electronics, getting a ukulele, airsoft guns to go in the yard to shoot, pulling out boardgames such as clue, and a drawing tablet to make amazing art with. To Sean that meant going to as many sporting events he could, from soccer to baseball to basketball, getting pitching lessons from Aaron Cox and signed memorabilia from Mike Trout, not to mention getting Sean shoes to expand his collection. And for Tyler it meant getting involved with the Boy Scouts, finding retro video games, teaching him the tricks of the trade, getting him parts yet another project car, and being there when Tyler graduated from Basic Training at Fort Benning, Georgia and again just a few weeks later when he became an Infantrymen.
Curt grew up close to many of his cousins, such as Brooke Ritchie, Harry Cossaboon, Edward Cossaboon and many (many) more. Lifelong Friends such as Barry Blake, Sarah Stratton, Jason Stratton, Andy Ryan, April Pettit, Michelle Pitts, Shavanda, Charles and Deanne Chance, The Runkle Boys, Richard and Sheila Martellio, Gill and Freddie Langlois, and Joe Ritchie.
Curt found himself becoming friends again with Leann Bohn-Negron and helping her through her father's passing, helping her finding a house, and becoming close her children Jamin, Matthew, Sofia, and AJ. He also helped Candice Derosa when she moved and needed repairs on her new home. He was always adored by his significant others' parents and families, viewing him as one of their own, such as Ronald and Roxann Suppi, James and Debbie Butler, Louise Consalo, Philip Derosa, and Rich Martellio. Curt also made many new friends in recent years such as Tanisha and AJ.
In Curt's last years he fell deeply in love with Meredith Suppi. They would go to East Point Lighthouse or Thompson's Beach together and walk the beach looking for sea glass or just listen to the waves crash against the shore. They lived together since almost the beginning of their relationship, and when Curt bought his house, they renovated it together. He often fondly talked of their trips to Georgia, Las Vegas, and Aruba where they got matching tattoos of the happy island.
He will be deeply missed by his three boys and daughter in-law, Aiden, Sean, Curtis Tyler, and Brooke, longtime partner and soulmate Meredith Suppi, mother Clarissa Cossaboon-Riggins, brother and sisters Michael Cossaboon, Kelly Riggins, Kristen Olsen, Clarissa "Crissy" Olsen, Ashley Olsen, Teresa Cossaboon, Jessica Terron, Sherrie Slaney, Brother in law Daniel Baker, nieces and nephews; Lexi, Marilyn, Haley, Makayla, Heaven, Nevaeh, Mckenzie, Arianna, Samuel, Michael, Brook, Kaitlyn, Rebecca, Carolyn, Jaylyn, Jenna, Julie, Jose "Junior", Jenessa, Jaylah, Amyiah, and Julianah.
There will be a viewing in Curt's memory at Barr Funeral Home in Millville, NJ, from 10 AM to 12 PM. where there will be a service held at 12 PM. Directly after the service there will be a Wake held at 1 PM at the Millville Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers Curt would have wanted donations made to the East Point Lighthouse through the Maurice River Historical Society or to the Millville Elks Lodge, 1815 E Broad St, Millville, NJ 08332, for hosting the Wake.
