Obituary

Carl H. Frischknecht, 80, of Commercial Twp. left this world peacefully at his home on June 13, 2023, following a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by his immediate family.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the beloved son of the late Carl and Anna (nee Mitchell). His family moved to the Woodbury, New Jersey, area when he was a young boy, but he returned to south Philadelphia and lived there during his young adulthood. He moved back to south Jersey for good in the late 1980's.

Carl voluntarily joined the US Army at age 17, having to get his mother's written consent to join. He trained as an airborne qualified paratrooper for the 82nd Airborne Division. He excelled in the service and was once cited as the youngest paratrooper to jump from one of the highest elevations.

Carl was a tractor trailer driver for many years. He most recently worked for Unimin Corporation in Dividing Creek as an equipment operator having retired from there in 2009.

Carl loved nature and the outdoors. He especially enjoyed boating, hunting, as well as fishing with his best friend Phil Schotter. He was a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan and was thrilled when they won the 2018 Super Bowl. Carl also enjoyed the Doo Wop music genre and would cheerfully sing these 1950's era songs to his grandchildren and reminisce about the "good old days". His favorite Doo Wop singer was Darlene Love.

Carl never had children of his own, but in 1991 he married Gert "Trudy" (nee Jones) who gave him three daughters as a wedding gift. Carl came into his daughters' lives when they were young adults and adolescents, and they quickly formed a close bond. He was their number one fan, always there to offer his love, support and encouragement. He proudly walked two of his three daughters down the aisle.

Carl is survived by his wife Trudy of 32 years; daughters Connie Stiles and her husband Jim of Millville, Lisa Henry and her husband Joe of Wildwood, and Jamie Smith and her husband Brandon of Millville.

In addition to his wife and daughters, Carl, affectionately known as Pop-Pop, is survived by his grandchildren Sandy, Daniel, Taylor, and Erin who meant the world to him, along with his beloved great-grandchildren Leah, Mariah, Melody, Major, Jaxson, and Jaidan.

Carl is also survived by two sisters Eileen Koehler of Clementon, and Maureen Sergi and her fiancé Rich Moran of Clifton; nephews Pete Sergi II, Bill Koehler, and Karl Koehler; and closest friend Phil Schotter of Dividing Creek. In addition to his parents, Carl is predeceased by his brothers-in-law Whitey Koehler and Pete Sergi. He was a good friend and listener to many, and he will be sorely missed.

As per Carl's request, no funeral or memorial service will be held. His wish was to have his ashes scattered among nature where he was most at peace. A private family memorial will take place at a later date to honor his wishes. Cremation is under the care of Barr Funeral Home, Millville, New Jersey.
