Betty "June"
Weed
d. Jan 7, 2022
Martinez
Betty "June" (Parave) Weed, passed away at her home in Martinez, GA on January 7, 2022 at the age of 84. She was known as Mom to 3, June to many, and Betty to a few, but was loved by all.
June was born in Vineland, NJ to Frank and Evelyn Parave in 1937, spent her younger years living in Toms River, NJ where she married and had 3 children whom she loved deeply. After a divorce, she moved to the Atlantic City, NJ area to be closer to her mother and step-father.
She spent her life working in the airline industry, first as a Station Manager for Allegheny Airlines, where she obtained her private pilot's license, long before many women even thought of such a thing. After years with Allegheny Airlines, she moved on to Eastern Airlines and then ultimately working for Delta Airlines until she retired. She had been accepted into the FAA's Air Traffic Control Academy but chose not to attend so that she wouldn't have to leave her children for the required months of training. This is another achievement not offered to many women in those days.
June is preceded in death by her father, Frank Joseph Parave, Jr.; mother, Evelyn Mae Compton; step-father, Walter Compton; brother, Frank J. Parave, III, son-in-law, Mallory Bumgarner and grandson, Nicholas Stern.
June is survived by her husband of 37 years, Franklin "Leland" Weed; her children, Suzanne (Steve) McAleer, Karen (Bumgarner) Stern and Bob (Janice) Stern; step-children, Franklin (Pam) Weed, Millard "Kenny" (Kathy) Weed, Raymond (Donna) Weed, Ronald Weed, Loretta (Frank) Largo and John David "JD" (Brandi) Weed; grandsons, Justin McAleer and Adam McAleer, 14 additional grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 4 nephews and 3 nieces.
She was an amazing woman who was loved by so many family members and friends and will be greatly missed by all. Her spirit remains with all of us and she will live on forever in our hearts and memories.
A private family celebration of her life will be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Millville, NJ on Friday, January 14, 2022.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in June's name may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a charity that she fully supported.
